    Body Lift

    What Is a Body Lift?

Also Known As a Belt Lipectomy

A body lift is a cosmetic procedure to raise and reshape unsightly, sagging body contours. During the aging process and after significant weight loss, your skin loses its elasticity, causing the mid-section to lose its natural shape and firmness. This procedure is designed to remove loose skin and related fat deposits, thus, providing a more youthful appearance. A body lift can be applied to the lower torso and upper legs including the abdomen (tummy tuck), waist, inner/outer thighs, buttocks (buttock lift), and hips. Liposuction may also be completed in conjunction with a body lift if indicated. Patients who have had a gastric bypass or other weight loss procedure often desire a body lift to remove the excess skin. If you have lost a significant amount of weight, you should expect to have at least 2-3 separate cosmetic surgery procedures to address the problems that result from such a major change in your physique.

When to Consider a Body Lift

If any of the following describe you, a body lift is an option to consider: • If you have had dramatic weight loss due to bariatric surgery or dieting • If you have relatively thin layers of fat below the skin in the hip, thigh, abdomen and buttock areas • If overhanging skin in your lower body restricts your mobility and/or causes painful chafing, rashes or infection • If you are distressed by sagging skin in your lower body • For massive weight loss patients,  you are near  your ideal body weight and are at least one year out from your weight loss surgery and at a stable weight for at least six months

    WILL THIS HELP WITH CELLULITE?

During a body lift, the buttocks are elevated, which smoothes the skin and can reduce the appearance of cellulite and wrinkles. While a body lift elevates and smoothes buttocks, it may also lead to a flattened appearance. For this reason, some patients may choose to have a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) using their own fat cells transferred from another area like the abdomen.

    WILL MY INCISIONS BE VISIBLE?

Dr. Maningas makes every effort to place large incisions in inconspicuous locations when at all possible. With a completion body lift scar, although it is a larger scar usually spanning from hip-to-hip along the natural curves where the buttocks meet the lower back, it is easily covered by most undergarment and swim suites.

WHEN CAN I GET IN THE POOL OR TAKE A BATH?

NO bath, pool, hot tub, lake, river, or ocean exposure to the wounds for 6 weeks or until all incisions are completely healed. By not submerging fresh and/or healing wounds in water helps reduce the risk of unwanted infections at the surgical site.
