JUVÉDERM® is a gel filler made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. It’s injected into the lips to instantly restore volume. The look and feel is so natural that people will definitely notice, but no one will know! JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that is proven to be safe and effective. Results can last up to 12-18 months depending on what product is used.
Another filler is called RESTYLANE®. A safe and natural cosmetic filler, it restores volume and fullness to the skin as a means to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It’s also effective in giving your lips a more youthful look. RESTYLANE® is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. Results are instantaneous and last about 6 months. There is also RESTYLANE® Silk, which is also an FDA-approved filler designed specifically for the treatment of lips and the lines around them. RESTYLANE® Silk’s unique, refined formulation is designed for precise lip shaping and for smoothing the lines around your mouth to create a natural look. Results can last up to 6-12 months depending on the product used.
There are several other fillers that can be used to restore volume and hydration to the lips. Our nurse injector will be better equipped to make product recommendations based on patient specific goals decided upon during an in-office consultation.

Yes, we almost always use topical numbing to minimize pain during lip injections. If requested, we can also do a dental block. Most fillers contain lidocaine already in them, so this helps make the treatment even more tolerable as it goes along. Pro-Nox is also available for an additional fee to help calm patients that are anxious.
Depending on what product is used, lip filler results are seen immediately and can last anywhere from 6 to 12+ months. A lot of our patients, will come in around 8 or 9 months for a “lip refresh” treatment to re-enhance volume.
Swelling is expected and can peak around 24-48 hours post-injection. Bruising is not uncommon, but varies patient to patient. Let our nurse injector know if you are or have been using NSAIDs (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen) or blood thinners, as these can cause excessive bleeding, swelling, and bruising.
